Bishop Willy Pino: Christmas Message

WILFREDO PINE BISHOP'S MESSAGE ESTÉVEZ,

BISHOP OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH GUANTANAMO-Baracoa

OCCASION OF CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR 2011

Dear sons and daughters: What a joy for me, your bishop, have a new opportunity to say a few words of encouragement and love and to congratulate them on Christmas and New Year! Today is Christmas Eve, and tomorrow: Christmas.

From now on, I wish the phrase known as "New year, new life" reality in each one of us. Despite concerns about the future we all want start the year and know clean the house and things in our lives, and that everyone, all of Cuba, do not repeat mistakes in order to grow into maturity. Hopefully, in these days, wish us (as they say) "who has health, nothing else matters" , consider not only physical health but also in other health, of the soul. For what we have achieved if at the end of life "healthy" (though the pressure, vision, cholesterol, or heart, lungs, hemoglobin ...) the Lord said: "Depart from me because you do not I know " (Mt. 25, 12). Hopefully not forget what he warned us "What do you use to a man to gain the whole world at the end of his life loses his soul? " (Mt. 16, 26).

welcome Christmas this year after the passage of the pilgrim image of Our Lady of Charity for our province.

· ; I think we will not forget in a long time that Pilgrim walked a thousand miles in our Diocese and she the same "sailed" by a mountain river rose more than 760 feet above the sea level.

· We will not forget the more than 80 roadside stops or have crossed the river 55 steps

· also not forget the receptions in each community with its unique initiatives

· We will not never forget those communities that were scheduled to receive the Virgin but the poor condition of roads made it impossible.

· not forget how it was possible pilgrimage to the Virgin 173 communities and 39 others could be how the pilgrims and get them to where the holy image.

· I forget so many flowers, candles and prayers, so many offerings, smiles, tears, applause and songs, many sacraments received many blessings ordered, many photos, many Cuban flags, many hymns sung, so fond of a town of its patron, its protective!

· remember for a long time that Rosario de la Aurora , next to Faro de Maisi, which pray for the suffering people of Haiti.

· We are not easily erased from the mind the presence of the Pilgrim in hospitals, cemeteries, places of work, iconic rivers in the province, Nursing Homes, houses of sick, maternity homes, the combined prison at Guantanamo, and his affection towards his visit to mambises Mambisa Mausoleum.

Many who listen to me and who were present at the receptions to the Virgin remember the promises we made to Mother of all Cubans.

· She promised to be better fathers, better mothers, better husbands, better wives, better children, better brothers, better neighbors, better coworkers, or study, a better Christian ...

· She promised not to let ourselves be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good ...

· She promised to make do with those who do not speak ...

· She promised never call "crazy" to a pregnant woman, or "turkey" who refused to take something that was not theirs ...

· She promised to meet the 10 commandments of the law of God, lying, stealing, not killing, not wanting a husband or wife of another person, etc.. ...

· She promised to convey the teachings of God to children and grandchildren ...

· She promised not to be "street light and dark of our house" ...

· She promised to have a clear conscience and not to approve anything that is faulty.

Before this holy image, farewell Mass in our diocese, we thanked everyone who helped the smooth conduct of pilgrimage : For the reporters and photographers at 60 missionaries who came from Camaguey, led by their archbishop, to give us a hand to the two Missionaries of Charity of Mother Teresa of Calcutta who came from Santiago; to priests, deacons and religious, the many lay people who worked, the drivers and, in particular, to Armando, the driver of the truck of the Virgin ; to provincial authorities, municipal and local, and, of course, our good God for having chosen Mary as Mother of his Son Jesus Christ (Luke 1, 31) and habérnosla delivered as our Mother (John 19, 27). To her, the Virgin of Charity, who loved the Cuban people before we had the Cuban flag, anthem and coat and Cuba Cuba was also the day we thanked and said goodbye to our proverbial greeting: "Virgin: THIS is your house! And come back whenever you want!"

Dear sons and daughters: It is said that next year, not just Cubans will not be an easy year. If that happened, it would be a good opportunity to appeal our spiritual reservoir, for "bottoming out" on the foundations of our faith and, again, look at Jesus Christ and follow his example. He was born in a country with difficulties, he chose a poor family; had no more than "four things" materials (Matt. 8, 20), did not fall into the temptation of doing what many asked her to use their influence on the people to remove up to the Roman occupiers, warned that the man need not only bread (Mt 4, 4); lived borrows things: a donkey (Luke 19, 30), a house ( Mc. 14, 14); know taught daily trust in God asking not the bread of the week, but every day (Luke 11, 3); eliminated the offense as a defense (Jn. 18, 22-23), and violence as a solution to problems (Jn . 18.11; Lc. 9, 54); taught to forgive "seventy times seven", that is, always (Mt 18, 22), said he had to "give to God what is God and to Caesar what is Caesar's "(Mt. 22, 21), healed the leprosy of the body (Mt 8.2) but we talked about other leprosy worse, our sin-sick soul (John 8, 34), we were asked to blindly trust our Father God, who cares about feeding the birds and make flowers bloom every day of the field, but, above all, cares about us, their children, who, in his words, are worth more than birds and flowers (Lk 12, 27-30) ...

Cuban As Christians we are called at all times, and especially now, to awaken dormant consciences, to be sowers of hope. Let us ask God to be people who have the virtue of hope. the hope of a believer is different from the world's hope. Christian hope is one that is grounded in God is the Father who loves us and forgive us, that Jesus Christ is the friend who never fails and who died and rose again to save us, and that the Holy Spirit is our strength and support. Without the Christian hope, men do not know where to go, nor understand who they are. As a priest friend wrote: "Hope is the only force that can keep us when our legs are strong." The Lebanese poet Khalil Gibran said that the hope must be always there where it costs, because "no matter how long the storm, the sun always shines again in the clouds." I think this is a poetic way of saying that it's true that our forefathers taught us Cubans "Whenever it rains, it clears." The truth is that there are hopeless people around us. difficulties materials are overwhelming. Fortunately, many want to work, want to grow, and want more facilities to do so. Let us pray that the Holy Spirit enlighten those who have the potential solutions in their hands and these aspirations be realized. Hopefully, as people, as a church and a people, we learn the lessons God is trying to teach these situations that we face.

pray that in the next year, Cubans know and preserve everything beautiful that we have: the spark, the initiatives, the occurrences, the love of God and the Virgin of Charity , attachment to family and the Cuban land, the the children love and joy. Do not let die the good and beautiful in us. A custom very nice that we have managed to keep between us is that, at Christmas and New Year, we welcome each other. "Congratulations," they say and say. And that is charming, because the word "congratulations" comes from Latin and means "happy" . Can you imagine how different would this world, Cuba, Guantánamo, Baracoa all our communities, our families, if each proposed compliment, or bring happiness to those around you? ... if everyone is dedicated to think less about his own happiness to the pursuit of happiness of others? ... "If husbands and wives mutually say" I want to make you happy "? If we do this, there will be Christmas. I hope that this Christmas we open our hearts to Jesus Christ. Hopefully this Christmas forgiving heart who has offended us. Hopefully this Christmas joy to the heart of a sick old man or a Nursing Home.

I would also like that this Christmas blessing impart them down now especially the sick, prisoners, the disabled, those living alone, who are away from their families and their land Cuban those who suffer, those who feel sad, grieving the recent death of a loved one, and those who have lost the virtue of hope. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!, They want their bishop, who now bless them. May the blessing of Almighty God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit descend upon you and be with you today, tomorrow and forever. Amen! ;
