Johnson China Old English

Second Sunday of Advent First Sunday of Advent

ADVIENTO second Sunday. CYCLE A.

" Repent, because it is near the Kingdom of Heaven (Mt.3, 1-2).

These are the words that John the Baptist makes an urgent call: "Repent , because it is near the Kingdom of Heaven" .

John breaks up with his family and the priestly tradition and is situated in the Judean desert, there invites the people to a radical conversion. His words are for us today. Baptist preaching produces some popular commotion : There is a massive influx of people expressed discontent with the religious institution and its leaders.

John preached: "Repent is near the Kingdom of Heaven ". In Greek is called "metanoia " that means a change in mindset, orientation: turn around. is a urgent appeal: "Repent ", which means changing your way of thinking, open yourselves to the possibility that your ideas, beliefs and certainties, perhaps, do not match of God and accept that you will transform its proximity. the Baptist calls us once again, the conversion , not a capricious demands to complicate our lives.

need to accept the call to conversion: we need to turn from our personal ambitions, of our injustice and superficialities and open to God's liberating presence. We need to become our weariness, our disappointments, our fears and be open to a profound renewal of our lives. We need a profound transformation of our own lives, our attitudes , our behavior, the way we live our relationships, our activities ... this transformation will be shown in a change in our society and our world. This conversion assumes that God is as primero de todo y, entonces, todo cambia.

" Está cerca el Reino de los Cielos ". Sí,   está cerca, está cerca de nosotros y de todo ser humano. Es Alguien que camina a nuestro lado, que conoce en su propia carne nuestras alegrías, nuestras frustraciones, nuestros sufrimientos: Alguien más íntimo a nosotros que nosotros mismos.

" Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight his path s ." John invites us also to build a road. To do this, quotes the text of Isaiah ... These words refer to that path. As if to say, is the Lord who comes again and you have to prepare a journey: we need to leave the ways ambiguous and prepare the way of our liberation. The way of the Lord passed through the desert , this indicates that is the path of liberation.

Today, we are exposed to multiple factors alienation and virtual slavery. We are only interested immediate satisfaction ... addressing a thousand ways. No room for God. Often vacuum left by God comes to be occupied by "the gods modern ": money, social prestige, fun, the standard of living, consumerism, etc..

liberation is achieved only when we think, consciously and responsibly, a fundamental attitude towards life: it is not closing the door to God or to open and welcome He who comes to us, come to liberate our lives and fill it with meaning.

These days we need to hear a voice that yells at everyone: "Prepare the way of Lord, make his paths . "In other words, take away the obstacles to the coming of God into our lives, not to block the doors of our hearts to his presence next to free.

For us it is walking, during Advent, a path that leads to liberty, love, and a full life . We all need to leave "Babylon", ie of our slavery. And our way through the desert brings us to encounter the living God who comes to us in Christ, whose coming we celebrate joyfully.

Juan, speaking to the Pharisees and the Sadducees, (representatives of political and religious power), called " brood of vipers", ie agents of death. But then John, referring to Jesus, says beautiful words: " I baptize you with water ... but he that cometh after me is stronger I ... He will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire "ie, He, Jesus, comes with the power of life and love Jesus plunge humanity, not in the waters of Jordan, but in the depth the love of God symbolized by the Spirit and Fire . God reaches us in the Man Jesus as Spirit and Fire to destroy injustice and to establish peace. No one can silence or turn off power of the Spirit Flame of Fire. This is Jesus, the Messiah of God who comes to save all people. Blessed are those who are open to his presence.

May we now move closer to that Fire and Life that and say: Lord, transforms our lives and Lead us on the path of Love and Peace.
