THIRTY SUNDAY CYCLE TO C.
" Two men went to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a" .
(Lk 18: 9-14).
In today's Gospel, the parable of the oy faris publican, Jesus presents two opposing attitudes in the way of standing before God and others. These attitudes are represented in the Pharisee and the publican. (The Pharisee in Jesus' time was a very religious man and complying with the Act, the collector, however, was a collector of tax Rome and considered a public sinner.)
The Pharisee's attitude embodies self: the self-satisfied man, self-stretching, which despise the other ... "I thank am not like other men, robbers, evildoers, adulterers." .. The form class apart (I'm not like others) lists the vices of others, and despised the publican. It is striking that in their religious practices (fasting and tithing) is not within the love of neighbor ...
The represents the Pharisee attitude prevents us from seeing ourselves as we indeed and distorts our relationship with God and others. From an attitude of arrogance and pride, is judged, is disqualified and despise the other. The Pharisee has made a mask that prevents you from seeing others as like himself, the Pharisee represents the model self-sufficient in the way of life. We find it everywhere and always we heard the same thing: I'm not like the others ... The Pharisee is yesterday and today. It is not like other men, a class apart, confess the vices of others, and judged severely the behavior of the collector .. The Pharisee judged, sorted and conviction. The Pharisee does not change, no regrets nothing, has nothing to rectify.
Perhaps this is one of the most serious shortcomings of our society. We want to change things, achieve a more humane society, transform the story and make it better but do not want to change ourselves, we think we can change society without changing ourselves This attitude of the Pharisee, "we can not find in us ? Did not we also see reflected in certain activities on the social, religious and political ?
The publican's attitude embodies the truth and humility. begins with a start-truth of his previous life, begins by acknowledging his sins, "Have mercy this sinner ... " Your trust is in God alone. Presents God, not hide behind any mask, not defended or justified, it is discovered before God as it is and is entrusted to his mercy. Jesus said that the publican " left the temple justified" , ie turned out as stood before God in its proper position, in truth, and God loves you so. God loves each and every one, as we are, as we, in our strengths and our limitations and our weaknesses. God is not afraid of our true; not only scare you, but it is from our own truth, as we enter into an authentic relationship with God. " Oh God be merciful to this sinner ."
"Why not try today a sincere and humble prayer of the publican ? We can also say in our hearts: Lord, have mercy on us because we like each other and how they depend on your love to renew our lives ... therefore, we put all our trust in Thee.
Jesus concludes the parable with these words " Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled and whoever humbles himself will be exalted ." "Humble" means starting from below, from the deepest and most real of ourselves, from our truth. Only after our entry into God's truth before we can build a new life. This is to be "lifted" to reach a profound renewal of our personal lives, to become fully what you are, realize our aspirations and deepest longings and be really happy. The Gospel is the fullness of humanity that is in every one of us and the way for everyone to be himself and be completely fulfilled. Only this radical personal renewal is capable of ensuring justice, solidarity and peace in our society.
view of this parable, perhaps might ask: Do we have enough humility to accept the Lesson of the publican? "We realize that only when we are in an attitude of humility and truth, we stand before God?.
The important thing is discovering today what each of us about the Pharisee and the publican. The two figures coexist in each of us.
The Gospel of this Sunday with this simple and profound parable , invites us to discover, to unmask, to undress and to renew our life to Him today could let rise in our hearts a humble prayer say Risen Lord, in light of our life !, the human heart, anguished, sometimes, confused and empty, needs Your Light. Our world in seeking a peace that seems difficult, needs your light.
